Online roulette

Bet on where the ball lands. Simple to play, and the one game where the wheel you choose matters more than anything you do at the table.

The rules

You place chips on the betting layout, the wheel spins, a ball is released, and it settles in a numbered pocket. Bets covering that number pay; the rest are lost. Bets are placed before the ball is released and cannot be changed afterwards.

A European wheel has 37 pockets: 1 to 36 plus a single zero. An American wheel has 38, adding a double zero. That one extra pocket takes the house edge from about 2.7% to about 5.26%, while paying exactly the same odds. If both are available, the European wheel is simply the better game. A French wheel is European with a rule that returns half of an even-money bet when zero lands, which halves the edge again on those bets.

The main bet types

Inside bets sit on the numbers themselves. They pay more and land less often.

Inside bets
Straight upOne number. Pays 35 to 1.
SplitTwo adjacent numbers. Pays 17 to 1.
StreetThree numbers in a row. Pays 11 to 1.
CornerFour numbers meeting at a corner. Pays 8 to 1.
Six lineTwo adjacent rows, six numbers. Pays 5 to 1.

Outside bets sit around the edge and cover large groups. They pay less and land more often.

Outside bets
Red or BlackEighteen numbers. Pays 1 to 1.
Odd or EvenEighteen numbers. Pays 1 to 1.
Low (1–18) or High (19–36)Eighteen numbers. Pays 1 to 1.
DozenTwelve numbers. Pays 2 to 1.
ColumnTwelve numbers down the layout. Pays 2 to 1.

Zero is neither red nor black, odd nor even, high nor low. That is exactly where the house edge comes from: every even-money bet loses when zero lands.

Every bet on a given wheel carries the same house edge. Spreading chips across the layout changes how results are spread, not what the game costs you. And because each spin is independent, a run of reds says nothing about the next spin — believing otherwise is common enough to have a name, the gambler's fallacy.
